Well, our road trip of a lifetime is only 48 days away and the preparations are well under way. We have our TripTik from BCAA and it takes the form of THREE booklets.....last estimate, about 19,000 miles!
Getting the truck servicing done for the trip and looking forward to our travelling partners arrival in March (Pat and Darwin)....we will take a three day trip to Victoria prior to hitting the road South on Sunday the 16th of March. Last day of work is Thursday the 13th before the trip....Maye says only 29 more work days for me...Yahoo. It will be a good break of 4 and a half months!
Will hope to keep this updated as we go with photos and events.....stay tuned.
Well, the "adventure" started early on Wednesday when Maye took an unexpected phone call from Pat. The surprise was unfolded when Pat explained the had arrived at the Greyhound Depot in Regina, only to find they had printed the wrong time on their tickets. They missed the Bus by an HOUR. Through some re-arranging, they were able to leave that night and quickly change coaches in Calgary arriving in Abbotsford at 8:30pm on Thursday.
After a good night sleep, we were off the the Ferry in the morning to Victoria via the West Coast Trail route through from Port Renfrew. We managed to get the small Mill Bay Ferry with seconds to spare and that saved some time on the trip. After a bowl of the "BEST" seafood chowder ever at the Port Renfrew Hotel, we headed down the storm watch side of the Island. In the attempt to turn in to one of the beach access roads, we hit a DEEP pothole and managed to puncture the tire on the car! Out comes the "donut" and a few minutes later we were on the road again. Took a hike down into China Beach to see some surfers and wath the waves for a few minutes. WOW... what a beautiful spot!
Saturday started with a trip to Canadian Tire to get the tire fixed. Once again, I was really impressed with the service staff and crew that pulled out all the stops to help get us back on the road again. The weather on the Island was just perfect and did not start raining until we were on the way to the Ferry terminal in Sydney.
Stopped for one last Kasey Kiss in Surrey and had dinner with Colin and Dana before heading home.
Sunday Morning (16th) we were up and loading up the "MayeFlower" with last minute provisions then off we went. WOW.....arrived to a one hour wait at the border and the Security Gal was not liking my simple comment about doing some camping in the States.....when prssed for more details, I turned her over to the "Navigator".....by the time Maye had recited THE W|HOLE LIST of locations, it was clear that the border guard had less geography knowledge than Maye and was smiling all the way through! I felt like breaking into the song "Ive been everywhere man......" when it was over.!
Cold and Rainy night in Maple Grove Resort in Randle then up and on the road to Klamath Falls today.....had some winter mountain pass driving with fresh snowfall near Crater Lake in the Williamette Forest area! Beautiful sunshine for the most part, but we were wondering at the beginning when the "whiteout" hit......Temps went from +10 in Eugene to -2 at the Pass summit....... Arrived at Klamath Falls for the night by 4:30 and have just been updating the pages ...thats it for now. We managed to get our booking for the "Hitchin Post" RV Park in Vegas for three nights, so that is looked after....a few more road miles to saw off before that......everything has been running smoothly so far....gotta love the Jimmy....handled the mountain pass today without hesitation and nothing slows her down! Getting the deisel was a good decision!
